This human IL-3 ELISA kit employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique to measure the levels of human IL-3 in multiple samples, including serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. It also uses the enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction to visualize and analyze the analyte levels through the color intensity. The intensity of the colored product is in direct proportion to the IL-3 levels in the sample and is measured at 450 nm through a microplate reader.

IL-3 is primarily produced by activated T-cells and plays a critical role in the activation and survival of a diverse group of cells, including mast cells and basophils, monocytes, B cells, T cells, and endothelial cells. IL-3 is involved in the hematopoietic response to infectious, immunologic, and inflammatory stimuli. Studies have shown that IL-3 contributes to inflammation and autoimmunity. IL-3 acts by binding to high-affinity cell surface receptors present on hematopoietic cells. IL-3/IL-3Rα signaling is responsible for cytokine storms during the pathogenesis of cecal ligation and puncture-induced sepsis and is suggested as a potential therapeutic target for sepsis.
