The product CSB-EL001419HU is a sandwich ELISA kit developed to measure levels of human Afamin (AFM) in multiple samples, including serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. The enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction is also used to amplify the signal and quantify the levels of the analyte through the intensity of the colored product. The color intensity positively correlates with the amount of AFM bound in the initial step.
AFM is a human plasma vitamin E-binding glycoprotein mainly produced in the liver. It promotes vitamin E transport across the blood-brain barrier. AFM is also a tumor marker for ovarian cancer. AFM has been found strongly associated with all components of metabolic syndrome including visceral obesity and has been a potential early marker of metabolic syndrome. It also plays a role in anti-apoptotic cellular processes associated with oxidative stress and is linked to insulin resistance and other features of metabolic syndrome.
