The product CSB-EL001312HU is a sandwich ELISA kit developed to measure levels of human ADAMTS5 in multiple samples, including serum, plasma, or tissue homogenates. The enzyme-substrate chromogenic reaction is also used to amplify the signal and quantify the levels of the analyte through the intensity of the colored product. The color intensity positively correlates with the amount of ADAMTS5 bound in the initial step.

ADAMTS5 is a key enzyme in osteoarthritis (OA) by degrading aggrecan as an aggrecanase. Since aggrecan destruction in synovial fluid is a hallmark at the early stage of OA, the major aggrecanase, ADAMTS5, is identified as a potential biomarker for the prediction of OA progression. It also plays important roles in normal physiology as well as pathologies such as cancer. ADAMTS5's roles in cancer vary from different types. Downregulation or hypermethylation of ADAMTS5 suppressed its tumor suppressor function in mouse melanoma, human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and human colorectal cancer. Overexpression of ADAMTS5 has also been reported in human glioblastomas and stimulates cell invasion.
