After 9 weeks, the HFD-fed mice were intraperitoneally injected with STZ (35 mg/kg) once a week for 4 times. One week later, the fasting blood glucose level (FBG) was measured after 12 h fasting, and the mice with FBG > 8 mM were considered as hyperglycemic model mice. Subsequently, the model group was divided into control and Up-U groups. The Up-U group was orally administered with Up-U at a dose of 200 mg/kg/day for 12 weeks. The control group was orally administered with the same amount of sterile water and all hyperglycemic model mice were fed with a 60% high-fat diet. The mice fed with a chow diet during the whole experiment were used as the blank group.
