Kallikrein 8 (KLK8), also known as Neuropsin, PRSS19, or TADG-14, is a member of the human kallikrein-related peptidase family located on chromosome 19. It is a secreted serine protease with strong expression in the hippocampus, where it regulates synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory through cleavage of extracellular matrix proteins and neural adhesion molecules. KLK8 has also been implicated in skin physiology, including keratinocyte proliferation and desquamation. Abnormal expression of KLK8 has been reported in several cancers, such as ovarian and colorectal cancer, making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target2.
