CD20 (gene: MS4A1), a member of the tetraspanin superfamily, has four transmembrane domains and the antibody-binding ECL2 loop; it is exclusively expressed in the B cell lineage (from late pro-B cells to mature B cells) (downregulated or absent in plasma cells) and regulates B cell development, activation, and survival by modulating BCR-mediated calcium signaling and downstream pathways.
