E-Selectin, a key member of the selectin family, is an adhesion molecule primarily expressed on vascular endothelial cells upon stimulation by pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1 and TNF-α. E-Selectin mediates the initial rolling of leukocytes on endothelium via recognizing sialyl Lewis X ligands, a critical step for leukocyte recruitment to inflamed tissues. It also participates in amplifying inflammatory responses and is implicated in pathological processes such as atherosclerosis and tumor metastasis. Its induced expression and ligand specificity make it a pivotal player in immune surveillance and inflammation.
