The peptide LYLVCGERL, derived from mouse insulin B chain (InsB), is presented by the H-2Kd/β2-microglobulin (β2m) complex. This complex is a central autoantigen in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse model of type 1 diabetes. Recognition of this peptide-MHC complex by autoreactive CD8⁺ T cells is a critical early event in the destruction of insulin-producing pancreatic beta cells, making it a fundamental target for studying autoimmune diabetes pathogenesis and tolerance mechanisms.
